Its deep yellow colour grabs your attention but as you approach it, the deterioration is much visible.
Sao Tiago fortress was built in Funchal in 1614 to protect the town against pirates. It surved military purpose till 1992. Now it’s changed into museum and restaurant.
To my surprise, on many photos in internet I see it beautiful and flourishing. While I remember it (from my trip in 2012) as an abandoned place with paint flaking down from the walls. Romantic but declining. Like the rest of the old town of Funchal.
