Though they were just twisted straws, no drops of water were going through.
A few tens of years ago thatched roofs were still very popular in Poland, especially in the villages. Now we can still see them in the open air museums where we walk from one building to the other and learn how our ancestors lived.
This barn with enormously huge thatched roof stands in the museum in Lipowiec (southern Poland).

North Eastern Italy- region Friuli. In one hour more or less I am in Austria, then up north I can reach the rest of Europe

Indeed. And close to Slovenia where I was for a week this summer 😉 And just 8 hours by car to Gliwice where I live.

Poland is a very beautiful country – I should visit more. It is close to Sweden and easily reached. And – I adore thatched roofs. In the southern part of Sweden they are still popular on the coast.
