There is not a single space in the church of S. Maria Maggiore that is empty.

Some of the frescoes originate from XIV century (like this Last Dinner below):

But except for paintings the walls are also covered with arrases coming from Holland (main photo – Crusifiction) or Florence.

I was stunned as well by the strenous work devoted to the balustrades in main altar – four boards inlaid in wood.
