There are at least 3 ways to get to the castle: challenging, picturesque and easy.
I take the middle one: I follow wide curves up to the top for several kilometers. I watch the landscapes, listen to birds and do not get tired too much.
The challenging route I ecknowledge on my way back to Citta Alta. I pass along people who breath deeply and rest each several steps. But they are following this path:
The third way is more expensive but comfortable. Here is the upper station of Funicolare:

I think I might like the challenging choice. It looks so pretty wandering along the wall. thank you for this little journey.

The challenging path was picturesque, especially when you take it down the hill π

This walk is definitely a unique experience, Awa! Is there any good hostel you would suggest near this amazing scenery?

I can strongly recommend Fontana del Delfino appartments – Via Pignolo 97. It’s outside the city walls but as Bergamo is small anyway, it’s not a problem. My room was on the third floor – very steepy stairs but what w view! On both sides. You can read about the rising sun here: https://awawdrodze.wordpress.com/2017/04/23/bergamo-the-sun-is-rising/.

I’m glad that my pictures inspired you. The old city is tiny (20 minutes of walk from one side to other) but very picturesque. Don’t miss also delicious Italian food π
