They are a few hundreds years old but they are still full of life.
One of the most famous levada on Madeira island is called Rabacal. When you enter it – shadowy and misty – you feel like in an ancient forest.
Above your head thick trunks and branches crawl in fantastic shapes. They are leaning almost horizontally over the path as if they were just about to fly away.
