These are mostly women that come to the island from May till August.
I mean of course tortoise-women 😀
Each 2-3 years they return to Gerakas Beach at the very headland of Zakynthos to lay their eggs in the sandy nests. From more then a hundred eggs only a few turtles reach their edult life.
For protection the nests are marked with special constructions and information in several languages.
Each morning young volunteers from all over the world check the nests and help the weaker turtle-babies reach the sea and sail away.
