It’s unbelievable that a single being can exist for so long!
The photo is not very clear but I could only take it through the bus window. It’s the oldest olive tree on Zakynthos – more then 2000 years old.
Much younger – but still as old as 15 human lives – is the olive tree close to our hotel. It welcomes the visitors of a restaurant and invites them to taste its products.
But Zakynthos is dotted with thousands of olive trees. Due to their wrincled bark, even the young ones already look highly mature.
I especially liked to admire them in the morning sun with red reflections of light on their branches. They are like living signs of history.
And at the end – a curiousity: what are these stones on the olive tree below for?
